Postcards From Back Home (kickstarter)

Remembering Palestinian Heritage through Postcards

Postcards from Back Home is a tribute to Palestinian history, culture and ancestry. Many Palestinians live abroad and can often feel disconnected from their land and heritage. Often times, Palestinian families have their own family photographs, but they are rarely shared or celebrated.

As a second generation Palestinian myself with little ability to visit my homeland, much of my design work is inspired by my strong connection with my heritage. I have created projects such as Piece Process and fundraised through creating T-Shirts. In addition to my design work, I was the Creative Coordinator at the Arab American Cultural Center--the only Arab American Cultural Center on a US college campus. My goal as a designer is to change the narrative around Palestine and to educate people on not only the disparities Palestinians face on a daily basis, but also our rich history and culture that often gets buried under politics.

Photographs of my ancestors well before me and well before my parents help me feel connected with my heritage and culture. It reminds me of my own family's history and memories. Sharing these with the broader community is my contribution to keeping our fruitful histories, cultures and stories alive.

Each Postcard has the year and family name of the photo. Backing this project not only contributes to keeping the Palestinian movement and heritage alive, but it inspires story telling and conversations with past generations. Backers that pledge $6 or more will receive a single print. Backers pledge $25 will receive all 12 postcards along with a QR code that talks about the photo more in depth. This cards are meant to keep as historic memory of Palestine, or used to write and send a letter to a loved one on the back of the image.
