Alessi Inspired Mint Incense Holder

One of the last projects I was able to complete before the pandemic was my Alessi inspired Incense holder. In this project we could choose to create an office object or an object of love—which I ended up going with. This incense holder was constructed using sheet metal and sheet metal machinery.

Object of Love: My love for my culture started with my love of mint (nahnah نعناع) As the weather got warmer, the nahnah in our garden would start growing and my sisters and I would eat from the plants as we played outside. My mom would use the leaves and create Palestinian dishes, and brew it into the shai we drank. The nahnah in our yard was gifted from Palestine from my Teta (grandma) and my late Aunt Salwa. They brought a part of Palestine to us. My mom says that our Aunt Salwa’s “spirit lives in her heart and in our garden” We love our land, culture and family that grows from it.
